Strasburger Orthopaedics is proud to offer NAVIO to our knee surgery patients. Dr. Scott Strasburger is the only orthopaedic surgeon in Nebraska who has been trained on this groundbreaking technology, which effectively revolutionizes the way partial and total knee replacements can be completed.
Recently, Dr. Strasburger gave a presentation on NAVIO in coordination with Syracuse Area Health. You can view the presentation in its entirety at the link below:
Knee replacement is generally recommended due to advanced osteoarthritis, which is a degeneration of the cartilage and bone inside the knee joint. This is the most common type of arthritis, and a leading cause for disability in the U.S. It is estimated that 45% of Americans will suffer from some level of osteoarthritis during their lifetime. Osteoarthritis can affect one compartment in the knee joint, or all three.
Around 21% of Americans diagnosed with osteoarthritis requiring knee surgery to correct qualify for a partial knee replacement, which is an option when only one of the three compartments in the knee joint are compromised. However, typically only 8% of knee replacements in the U.S are partial knee replacements, due to the complexity of the procedure. Surgery is often put off until a total knee replacement is required.
NAVIO makes it possible for each surgery to be perfectly customized, with parameters for bone removal and implant placement precisely defined. This means patients who qualify for a partial knee replacement can have the surgery completed with a higher rate of success, and less chance of requiring a full knee replacement in the future.
For those who have damage in all compartments of the knee, NAVIO provides a surgical approach that doesn’t require the repeated radiography of traditional knee replacement surgery. Approximately 56% of total knee replacement patients require revisionary surgery within two years, due to issues with fixation of the implant, instability, or misalignment.
With NAVIO, these common problems are minimized or eliminated. The result is a more stable knee, with all moving parts secure and aligned for maximum mobility. If you have chronic knee pain, instability of the knee joint, stiffness in the knee, limited mobility, and / or swelling and inflammation around the knee joint, contact our office for a consultation. NAVIO robotics assisted knee replacement surgery could be the solution for you.
