Regenerative Therapies: Orthopaedics, Transformed
At Syracuse Area Health – Strasburger Orthopaedics, we strive to bring patients the highest possible level of care, including emerging technologies, therapies, and procedures. Dr. Strasburger’s goal is to improve overall health, speed healing, and provide holistic, minimally invasive options whenever possible.
Many orthopaedic cases can be treated using complementary therapies in tandem with traditional medicine, up to and including surgical intervention. Regenerative medicine harnesses the power of your body’s own natural ability to regenerate itself, and boost that ability with simple, minimally invasive processes.
A welcome side effect of these therapies is pain relief. When your body heals, pain fades. Dr. Strasburger can use the following therapies to kickstart regenerative action on the part of your body, holistically providing relief from pain and driving faster, more complete healing.
PRP
Platelet-rich plasma, or PRP, is the ideal medicine for your body, since it comes from your body. PRP turns your body’s most powerful tool – your blood – into a biocompatible, supercharged solution that can exponentially increase healing ability after surgery, or significantly minimize pain stemming from a recent or old injury.
- Dr. Strasburger draws some blood, in a familiar, quick procedure that is near-painless.
- The blood is centrifuged to concentrate the platelets in the plasma.
- The plasma is injected into the site of pain or injury
- The platelets attract growth factors and rapid healing commences.
iovera°
Chronic knee pain can drag you down and limit your mobility. Knee surgery can result in acute pain that only fades slowly during weeks of recovery. Dr. Strasburger can relieve both acute and chronic pain using the iovera° treatment system.
This minimally invasive therapy targets the nerves that send pain signals to the brain, and “freezes” them, with a shot of supercharged cold therapy that temporarily deadens them. As the nerve regenerates, sensation returns – but only well after the window for pain has passed.
